Metals (MET) Division

The Machinery Group is composed of 5 Divisions - Power & Electrical Systems; Plant & Industrial Machinery Business; Ship, Aerospace & Transportation Systems; Motor Vehicle Business, and Isuzu Business.  At least one expert from each Division (except Isuzu) has been despatched to MCUK from the company’s Tokyo Headquarters, highlighting the importance of this market to MC’s Machinery Group.

The Power Systems Department covers all business related to power generating plants in Europe, and recently provided key support to MC in securing the following contracts:
(1 Full turn key contract for Bandirma 900MW gas turbine combined cycle power plant in Turkey.
(2) Full turn key contract for Magnum 400MW x 3 Units gas turbine combined cycle power plant in the Netherlands.
(3) Supply and installation contract for Turceni Flue Gas Desulfurization in Romania.
(4) Full turn key contract for Hengill 45MW x 5 Units geothermal power plant in Iceland.
(5 Supply contract for Karan 250MW gas turbine in UK.
The Power Systems Department, together with MC’s headquarters, has also joined the Wind Farm Development Fund in the Netherlands a shareholder. This fund will now look to develop wind farms in various European locations.

The Chemical Plant Department, in the oil and gas industry, has continued to collaborate with MC’s Energy Business Group to create additional value to clients, in terms of financing, project development and contracting. Especially for European engineering companies, plant equipment business has been increasing due to a worldwide construction rush of new petrochemical, oil and gas plants.     
           
The Ship Department has also been successful in promoting its shipping business. London is the centre of the global shipping market and from this position we are able to provide the latest market information to our customers. We take care of markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, dealing with every type of ship, including bulk carriers, tankers and container ships. Currently we have orders for around 100 vessels to be delivered in the next 4-5 years.
Our main activities within the shipping business are:
(1)      Sales of both new-built and second hand vessels
(2)      Ship chartering arrangements, both time charters and bare boat charters
(3)      Ship finance, including our competitive finance scheme in Japanese Yen
(4)      Jointly owning ships with our partners

The Automobile Department sell automobiles in the UK, manufactured by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation through our affiliate company, the Colt Car Company.  This year the company introduces the new Lancer series.  Both the Lancer (Saloon) and Lancer Evolution X are now on sale, and the Lancer (Hatchback) will be coming soon in the autumn.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is one of the world’s leaders in developing technology for new environmentally-friendly pure electric vehicles.  In the years to come, it is anticipated that Mitsubishi Motors’ lithium-ion electric mini-car will be launched in the UK, the first European country to take delivery of this exciting model.

In 1998 MC, the Mozambique government, BHP Billiton Limited and the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa laid the foundations for Mozal S.A.R.L., an aluminium smelter joint venture in Mozambique.
