In 2007 the MCFEA provided Zoological Society of London with a grant to build a climate change exhibit in the "BUGS!" building at ZSL London Zoo, which the MCFEA helped establish in 1999. This interactive climate change feature will provide visitors with an introduction to the climate change phenomenon and how its consequences are threatening terrestrial and aquatic habitats and species around the world.
The feature utilises ZSL's educational expertise to communicate relatively complex climate change messages in an easy to understand and inspiring way to a huge and diverse audience. The medium of a zoo allows ZSL to illustrate actual and predicted climate change impacts on species whilst the visitor is surrounded by some of the most incredible species found on the planet.
ZSL attracts over 1.4 million people into its zoos every year, and the climate change feature fits into their educational strategy to inform and inspire this huge audience about contemporary environmental issues. The grant brought the MCFEA's total donations to ZSL since 1993 to just under £200,000.
